The Huichol Indians of western Mexico inhabit one of the most isolated and inaccessible areas of Middle America. This isolation has meant that their aboriginal culture has survived with relatively few major modifications since the period of first contact with Western culture. This situation offers a unique opportunity to the anthropologist searching for ways to better understand native culture in the area of Mesoamerica.
